Welcome to Waterford

Attracting thousands of visitors every year, Waterford is one of the most visited cities in Ireland. It is no surprise that Waterford is top of so many people’s travel plans: the city was founded by the Vikings and has thrived over the centuries.
Waterford is Ireland's oldest town -- the Vikings set in the 9th century it. In 1170, the town entered a significant time of its foundation, as Strongbow for the Normans maintained it. One of the most intriguing treasures from both of these phases are on display in the Waterford Treasures, a trio of museums in town center. These include 1373's Great Charter Roll, constituting the town as it appeared in the 14th century, and also the Waterford Kite Brooch, crafted out of silver and gold.
